Top Rated Air Duct Cleaner

  • If you think you need your air ducts cleaned you must call Johnathan. He was just here. He took a look at my ducts and determined that they didn't need to be cleaned. Such honesty is rare these days. He could have just cleaned them and taken my money and I would have been none the wiser. I will certainly be calling him in two years to take another look.

Jon came to our house for a booked air duct cleaning. He inspected the air duct and recommended us not to do the cleaning at this time because the air duct was fairly clean. He did not charge anything for the inspection. When we booked the cleaning, he was very patient at explaining the process for air duct cleaning and he called us for preparation the day before the cleaning. Jon is a very professional and honest business owner. We are so happy to find a great resource that we can relay on when we need air duct cleaning in the future. We will definitely recommend him to our friends and family.

Spring Home Tip: Protect Your Family from Bird Nests & Hidden Dryer Vent Dangers

Birds Nest Near the House

Spring in Wisconsin means sunshine, fresh air… and nesting season.

While we all enjoy seeing birds return in the spring, there’s one place they shouldn’t be building a home — inside your dryer vent. What looks like a harmless nest on the outside of your house can actually create serious safety and health concerns inside your home.

At Healthy Living Air Duct Cleaning, we want Milwaukee-area homeowners to stay informed and protected. Here’s what you should know.

Why Birds Love Dryer Vents

To a bird, your dryer vent looks like the perfect nesting spot:

  • Warm
  • Sheltered
  • Protected from predators

Unfortunately, that cozy nest can block airflow, trap lint, and create a dangerous fire hazard. But beyond airflow issues, there’s another lesser-known risk many homeowners don’t think about.

The Hidden Problem: Bird Mites

What Are Bird Mites?

Bird mites are tiny parasites that feed on the blood of birds. When birds are actively nesting, the mites stay in the nest and feed on the adult birds and their chicks.

They’re nearly invisible to the naked eye — but they can become a big problem fast.

How Bird Mites End Up Inside Your Home

Here’s where things get concerning.

When:

  • Baby birds leave the nest
  • A nest is abandoned
  • Or birds die inside the vent

…the mites suddenly lose their food source.

In search of a new host, they begin to migrate. Because your dryer vent connects directly from outside into your home’s duct system, it can act like a direct pathway indoors. Mites can move through tiny gaps, cracks around the vent, or even through ductwork.

Once inside, they may spread into living spaces.

What Happens If Bird Mites Get Indoors?

Bird mites don’t typically live long on humans, but that doesn’t mean they’re harmless.

They can:

  • Bite humans and pets
  • Cause itchy, red skin irritation
  • Create a crawling sensation on the skin
  • Lead to anxiety and discomfort

Even though they can’t thrive long-term on people, infestations are stressful and frustrating — and they won’t fully go away unless the original nest source is properly removed.

The Bigger Picture: Safety Risks Go Beyond Mites

Bird nests inside dryer vents can also:

  • Restrict dryer airflow
  • Cause overheating
  • Increase the risk of dryer fires
  • Trap moisture and damage ductwork

What starts as a small nesting issue can quickly turn into a fire hazard or costly repair.

How to Protect Your Home This Spring

The good news? Prevention is simple and affordable.

1. Install a Proper Bird-Proof Vent Cover

A professional-grade, louvered vent cover allows air to flow out while blocking birds from entering.

2. Schedule Annual Dryer Vent Cleaning

Lint buildup combined with nesting material is a serious fire risk. Professional cleaning ensures safe airflow and gives us a chance to spot early warning signs.

3. Inspect Vents During Nesting Season

Spring is peak activity time. A quick visual check around your exterior vent can prevent bigger issues later.

4. Remove Nests Safely

If you suspect a nest — especially if you notice itching or unexplained bites — call a professional. Improper removal can make mite issues worse.

A Healthy Home Starts with Clean, Clear Vents
